QUINTA DOS ENCADOS

In this third testimonial in the TOWORKFOR PEOPLE series, we follow Rui Azevedo, a dedicated winemaker at Quinta dos Encados in Guimarães. During a relaxed conversation, Rui shared details about his day-to-day work, the challenges he faces, and the importance of suitable safety footwear for his job.

EVERYDAY LIFE

A Vinho Verde producer follows the vineyard’s natural cycle, starting with vineyard inspections and assessing the condition of the grapes, followed by pruning the vines and, finally, harvesting. I also work closely with the winemaker and the agricultural engineer.

We mainly have three grape varieties. The predominant one is Loureiro, without a doubt. Then we have Pederná, known for Arinto, and a touch of Trejadura, with which we make two types of wine. We have two references, Grande Escolha and Loureiro, which is 100% single-varietal.

Quinta dos Encados is located 1 kilometre from Santuário da Lapinha, another kilometre from Santuário da Penha, and it really seems to me to be a place that could almost be said to be blessed by the estate's own location.
